Alan Fetcher of AFC Industries Elected BC Construction Association Board Chair

VICTORIA, BC October 5, 2017 – The British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) announces the election of Alan Fletcher to the role of Board Chair for the 2017-2018 term, effective immediately.

Based in Courtenay-Comox, Alan is President and Founder of Alan Fletcher Construction Industries Ltd. and has been part of the island’s construction sector for more than 30 years, specializing in commercial, light industrial, and multi-family projects, as well as award-winning custom homes. As a ticketed carpenter, business leader and employer, Alan prioritizes the need to balance project costing with quality construction and creative design.

In his new position as BCCA Board Chair, Alan continues the work of out-going Chair Bob Cooke of Vancouver’s Division 15 Mechanical Ltd., advocating on behalf of BC’s industrial, commercial, and institutional construction employers on important issues such as skilled worker shortages and achieving the highest standards when it comes to public sector procurement policies and procedures.

A focus during Alan’s tenure will be to work with the leadership of the four Regional Construction Associations to ensure strong benefit to membership while serving the industry at large through the launch of BCCA’s new strategic plan. The new three-year plan will take the organization to 2020, its 50th Anniversary of incorporation.

“BC’s construction sector contributes nearly 9% of our province’s GDP and employs close to 250,000 British Columbians,” notes Fletcher. “I have always been a passionate supporter of the skilled trades and an advocate for the value of craftsmanship, which is so important to our industry and our communities. In my new role at BCCA I look forward to the opportunity to champion our tradespeople and assist our industry to attract BC’s best and brightest young people.”

Active on both the BCCA and Vancouver Island Construction Association Board of Directors, Alan is well-versed in the role these organizations play and understands the issues and opportunities in front of the construction employers they serve. In addition to his roles at BCCA and VICA, Alan is also Chair of the Construction Foundation of BC, the BCCA’s charitable arm.

“We welcome Alan to the Chair’s role and look forward to his contributions as a skilled tradesperson, and as a knowledgeable and successful business person and employer,” says Chris Atchison, President of the BCCA. “Alan’s passion for craftsmanship is widely recognized, and in combination with his advocacy work and generous volunteerism, he is highly valued as a role model and spokesperson for our industry.”
