Apprenticeship in BC

Apprenticeship plays an essential role in the construction sector’s economic health and growth. Our industry depends on workplace experience, with as much as 85% of training happening directly on the job.

With an estimated 26,800 job openings coming to the skilled trades by 2030 and two out of three workers already over the age of 45, there is a great deal of career opportunity in the construction sector.  As one BCCA member puts it: “Apprentices are the future of our industry. They start on the tools, but they become our company presidents. The career potential is phenomenal, if only more of our young people could see it!”

STEP

The Skilled Trades Employment Program can help you move your skills and your career forward to apprenticeship and journeyperson status. Contact your local Skilled Trades Employement Specialist at STEP today: there are several locations around the province, and all the contact information you need is listed on the STEP website.

Careers in Trades

Careers in Trades is a career awareness website that acts as an information hub with resources and tools for researching apprenticeship options. It’s a great first stop in understanding your apprenticeship and industry options.

SkilledTradesBC

SkilledTradesBC guides you through everything you need to know about apprenticeships and industry training in B.C. SkilledTradesBC has programs focused on developing women in trades and Indigenous Peoples in trades.

CAF-FCA (The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum)

The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum – Forum canadien sur l’apprentissage (CAF-FCA) is a non-profit organization that connects Canada’s apprenticeship community.

CAF-FCA has worked to change the conversation about apprenticeship in Canada. By creating opportunities to share successes and address common issues, CAF-FCA has contributed to effective local, regional and national solutions.
