The Business Case for Apprenticeship Training in the Skilled Trades: Calculating the Return On Training Investment (ROTI)

We are looking for construction industry employers to participate in a focus group to inform a project that will estimate the return on apprenticeship training investment (ROTI) for 21 trades across the province of B.C. The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA) has contracted R.A. Malatest and Associates Ltd. (Malatest) to conduct this research.

The goal of the project is to assess actual costs and quantify the associated benefits and impacts of apprenticeship training from an employer perspective. As part of this research, we are conducting focus groups with employers from skilled trades throughout B.C. If you participate in a focus group, you will be asked to provide feedback on the preliminary trades selected for the study. You would also be asked to comment on the costs and benefits of apprenticeship training, including feedback on how we propose to measure and quantify the costs and benefits associated with investment in training apprentices.

If you are interested and available, we would like to invite you to participate in a focus group at one of the following times:

  • Tuesday, February 15 at 8am
  • Wednesday February 23 at 8am
  • Thursday March 3 at 8am

The focus group will be conducted via Microsoft Teams and will take about 90 minutes. As a thank you for your time, you will receive a $100 cheque that will be mailed to you after the focus group.

If you are interested in participating, please register via the below link, where you will be prompted to indicate your preferred session.

If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to contact Emily Arrowsmith:
