Construction Month Wraps with Focus on Stability and Building BC’s Future
Industry highlights progress while calling for clear, long-term direction
Victoria, BC (April 30, 2026) — As Construction & Skilled Trades Month comes to a close, the BC Construction Association (BCCA) is taking the time to celebrate and reflect on the incredible progress our industry has made – and the future impact we have yet to make.
With over 260,000 British Columbians contributing to our built environment, the construction industry is responsible for strengthening communities across the province. The industry is one of British Columbia’s largest and most vital economic drivers, creating jobs, enabling growth, and paving the path forward for a brighter, more sustainable and resilient future.
“This industry is at the heart of every community in British Columbia,” said Chris Atchison, President of the BCCA. “Construction Month gives us the opportunity to celebrate that and to have the conversations and develop the plans and initiatives that will shape what comes next.”
This month, BCCA and its regional partners — the Northern Regional Construction Association (NRCA), the Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA), the Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA), and the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) — celebrated industry in communities and on job sites across the province, and industry pride was on full display with over 70 companies hosting Lunchbox Celebrations to thank their hardworking crews. In a fitting close to the month, the NRCA is wrapping things up in style with their Contractor Breakfast in Prince George, where they will honour the north’s incredible industry community.
BCCA took this same passion and pride to the Legislature on our annual Advocacy Day, bringing our recommendations and solutions for addressing pressing industry challenges and needs directly to provincial decision-makers. We also launched our annual Industry Survey report and Spring Stat Pack, showcasing the remarkable resiliency the industry continues to demonstrate, even in the face of ongoing economic uncertainty, rising costs, payment delays, and uncertainty around project timing.
It’s also worth acknowledging the federal government’s brand-new Spring Economic Update, which included a commitment to recruit, train, and support more skilled workers to meet Canada’s ambitious infrastructure goals. The announcement validated something that BCCA and the construction industry have long known: Canada’s future will be built by the people in the trades, and investing in them is investing in all of us.
“Construction Month shines a light on the thousands of businesses and workers across every region who are working hard to build our province, often while navigating a complex and shifting economic environment,” added Atchison. “They are the ones turning plans into progress, building with purpose, and creating a legacy that lasts. Their dedication reflects what this industry is made of: resilience and grit.”
Standing strong for industry doesn’t end with the completion of Construction Month. BCCA will continue working with government and industry partners to advance solutions that support a competitive and sustainable construction sector. We extend our appreciation and gratitude for all the leaders and organizations involved in this year’s Construction Month, and for the contributions, dedication, and heart that make this yearly celebration of our industry so impactful.
And as we look ahead, we’re already counting down to something special: the 10th annual Construction & Skilled Trades Month in 2027. A decade of celebrating the people and industry building BC deserves to be marked in a big way, and we’re already planning for it. Stay tuned.
