Dear Coach or Manager,
The BC Construction Association (BCCA) is pleased to provide extra incentives and rewards for your hardest working players this season, in partnership with BC Hockey MML & FMAAA leagues. This exciting new program is called ‘Hard Hats & Hockey Sticks’ and we’ve enclosed everything you need to make it a great success for your team.
Here’s what you need to know:
What is Hard Hats & Hockey Sticks?
A fun way to remind young hockey players about the career opportunities in the skilled trades. Construction employers highly value the characteristics natural to elite athletes, but young players aren’t always prioritizing their sport-related skills and experiences when they’re putting their resume together That’s why we’ve tagged our program “Flex Your Skills”.
Skilled tradespeople are in high demand: training supports are readily available and employers are looking for motivated young people. The BCCA has several no-fee, trusted programs that help inform players about their future career path, and even connect them with high quality employers.
How does it work?
Each month, the Coach or Manager of your team will award the ‘BCCA Hardest Working Player of the Month’ prize package to the player that has demonstrated the characteristics which embody both a hard-working athlete and a tradesperson:
- Hard work
- Respect for safety
- Commitment to ongoing skill development
Presenting the Awards: This is a great opportunity to give recognition and a sense of pride to your players. Please remember to convey the skills and attributes the winner has embodied over the past month, and how they are valued by the team and by the construction trades industry. As part of this presentation, the winner receives a prize package to keep, and the team hard hat as a trophy which they will pass on to the teammate who is recognized the following month.
Please take a few photos of the award presentation. For example:
- the player wearing the hard hat and team uniform with the logo’s clearly visible
- a photo with the winner engaging with a coach or manager
Please post on social media using #FlexYourSkills and/or email us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org with the photo and name of your winner
Thanks so much for your participation – if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
What do you have to do?
Make sure you have everything in your package:
The package we’ve sent you should have:
- Branded hats (Qty: 7)
- Branded stickers (Qty: 43)
- Prize pack bags (Qty: 7)
- Branded water bottles (Qty: 7)
- Branded program cards (Qty: 27)
- 1 hard hat
Here’s what you’ll need to do each month:
- Pick the hardest working player of the month
- Assemble a prize pack using the provided bags
- Hat, water bottle, program card & 3 sticker sheet
- Present the prize pack and hard hat to your chosen player
The monthly prize pack should include: 1 hat, 1 water bottle, 1 program card, and one sheet of 3 stickers. Use the inserted bags to present them, and also use the team hard hat for the presentation ceremony. The additional stickers and program cards can be distributed to all of your players at the start of the season.
We highly encourage you to also use the hard hat as a post-game award, given game by game to the hardest working player that day. This could be chosen by you, or the last player that received the hard hat. We advise not letting players take the hard hat home as you are responsible for it. You are also free to keep it at the end of the season.
