BC Construction Association Announces New Board Chair
Don Wightman of PML Professional Mechanical Ltd. to Lead BC’s Construction Association
VICTORIA, BC October 8, 2024 –The British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) has announced the election of Don Wightman to the role of Board Chair for the 2024-2025 term.
Based in Coquitlam BC, Don is the President of PML Professional Mechanical Ltd., a company he founded in 1995. PML has since grown into a leading mechanical company in Western Canada, providing complete services that meet specialized demands, including hospitals and healthcare, commercial, multi-tenant residential, and institutional facilities.
Don has been an active member of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) board since 2014, helping to lead the organization as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-Chair, and Chair. He has served on the BCCA board since 2018, most recently as Treasurer.
Don’s commitment to the construction industry is longstanding. He has worked on major projects across Canada, including the W.A.C. Bennett Dam in 1968. He holds Red Seal certification in both Interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanic and Interprovincial Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Don holds a Provincial Coast Scaling Licence through his experience in the forestry industry. He also holds a Commercial Pilot Licence, and has flown as a float instructor and pilot for a sky diving company.
As BCCA Board Chair Don will continue the work of out-going Chair Anthony Minniti, President of CGI Constructors, advocating on behalf of BC’s industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) construction employers on important topics such as prompt payment, skilled worker shortages, and public sector procurement policies and procedures.
Under Don’s leadership, BCCA will launch and implement a new five-year strategic plan which will take the organization to 2030. As BCCA Board Chair, he will continue to prioritize collaboration with the four Regional Construction Associations to ensure strong benefit to membership while serving the industry at large.
“Builders work hard and get things done,” notes Wightman. “With important advocacy issues like Prompt Payment Legislation, Lien Reform and Adjudication still on the table, we will be working hard to ensure British Columbia’s next government understands that enactment is becoming critical if British Columbia is to remain competitive. Let’s get this done.”
“On behalf of everyone at BCCA, I want to congratulate Don on his nomination to the Chair’s role,” says Chris Atchison, President of the BCCA. “Don is passionate and always brings the level of energy that is needed to continue to advocate for what is in the best interest of BC’s construction industry. Together, we will work hard to meet the housing and infrastructure challenges that will make life better for all British Columbians.”
