BCCA is launching a major hiring and apprenticeship drive in the summer of 2022.
Employers will receive cash payments for hiring and registering first-year apprentices in any of these 39 Red Seal Trades.
In advance of the funding announcement, we are inviting private-sector stakeholder organizations in BC’s construction industry to indicate their interest in becoming a promotional partner. This will be your opportunity to advise your members and supporters of this important funding and share in the message as an official promotional partner. There will be financial renumeration to your organization for its role in communications.
Employers* can receive payments for:
- Hiring a new employee
- Registering a new employee as a first-year apprentice
- Registering an existing employee as a first-year apprentice
- Switching an existing apprentice or journeyperson into a different Red Seal trade as a first-year apprentice
*Only employers with less than 500 employees are eligible
Payments will be:
- $5,000 for hiring or registering any worker
- An additional $5,000 for contributing to workforce diversity by hiring or registering any worker who self-reports as:
- A woman
- A new Canadian
- LGBTQ2+
- Indigenous
- A person with a disability
- A visible minority
Employers can receive payments for up to 2 employees per year during the 2 years of the drive, for a maximum of $40,000.
Employers can spend the money at their discretion. For example:
- Hiring bonus
- Gear and work apparel
- Childcare costs
- Offset business taxes
- Offset cost of sick leave
- Training and mentoring
- Raises for field or office staff
- Safety equipment
- Professional development
BCCA staff will do all the paperwork for you – there is no red tape, no onerous application or vetting process.
