BCCA Statement on U.S. Tariffs Against Canadian Steel & Aluminum
It’s been one week since the U.S. paused 25% tariffs for 30 days on Canadian imports. But now we’re facing the potential of immediate tariffs on steel and aluminum.
BCCA is concerned and disappointed by the Trump administration’s announcement of 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum. These will have deep and lasting impacts on the construction industry and the communities and families it serves in British Columbia and across Canada. We stand in solidarity with all those affected by these reckless trade policies.
We urge the BC government to take immediate action to support this critical sector. Now, it is more important than ever to commit to policies and legislation designed to help us here at home. The provincial government must pass Prompt Payment Legislation, guarantee payment certainty for construction businesses, and accelerate efforts to eliminate internal trade barriers. BC needs to build.
BCCA is ready and willing to work with the provincial government to ensure the construction industry, our members, and our communities, are protected from ongoing economic uncertainty and risk and remain competitive on an increasingly turbulent world stage. Together, we stand strong.
